ASAT® Bass
When Leo Fender† launched the G&L L-2000™ bass in 1980, it was clear he was ready to make history all over again. Never before had such a wide range of tones come from a single bass, and throughout its evolution the iconic L-2000 has continued to win the hearts of bassists of every style and musical taste. Once the ASAT guitar came around in '86, it didn't take long for Leo to apply this body shape to a bass. The ASAT Bass is essentially an L-2000 packed into an ASAT body shape, with a narrower 1 1/2" nut width to help balance the instrument. The result is one the coolest looking basses ever to come from Leo Fender, with all the power and flexibility of an L-2000. Tom Hamilton of Aerosmith has been a fan of ASAT Basses since the '90s and now has his own ASAT Bass Tom Hamilton signature model.
The foundation of the ASAT Bass is a pair of G&L Magnetic Field Design™ humbuckers backed by the flexible Tri-Tone™ control system, providing the sort of versatility that’ll let you find your tone no matter what kind of bass line you’re laying down. The Tri-Tone system features a trio of mini toggles for pickup selection, series/parallel signal routing and active/passive operation, as well as a trio of knobs for volume, treble and bass. With all that under the hood, Leo gave the ASAT Bass the kind of chops that’ll fit in any situation, from classic R&B to power-packed rock to poppin’ funk. What’s more, the ASAT Bass features an innovative Leo Fender-designed Saddle-Lock™ bridge to transfer string energy right into the body end-grain for an incredibly resonant instrument. On the other end is a comfortable, C-shaped neck checking in with a comfortable 9 1/2" radius and 21 Jescar 57110 medium-jumbo nickel-silver frets ready to deliver silky playability.
Made in Leo Fender’s historic G&L facility on Fender Avenue in Fullerton, California, the ASAT Bass is available with a wide range of custom options including body and neck woods, body and neck finishes, and neck profiles.
Founded by Leo Fender in 1980, G&L USA instruments continue to be made in the historic G&L facility on Fender Avenue in Fullerton, California, the Birthplace of Bolt-on™.

ASAT® Bass Semi-Hollow
When Leo Fender† launched the G&L L-2000™ bass in 1980, it was clear he was ready to make history all over again. The ASAT Bass Semi-Hollow takes all this goodness and adds another twist: a semi-hollow Swamp Ash body. The MFD humbuckers have always been known for their detailed articulation, and the semi-hollow body adds even more air around notes while softening a little of the attack transient.

ASAT® Bass Tom Hamilton Signature...
Putting the Punch in the Aerosmith Sound
Aerosmith’s Tom Hamilton has been playing G&L ASAT Basses for nearly twenty years since he bought his first blue metal flake ASAT Bass at 48th Street Custom Guitars in New York City. Since then, G&L has built several more ASAT Basses in a variety of finishes, but there’s something about G&L’s over-the-top metal flake finishes that keeps him coming back for more.
Tom loves the tone, the way the ASAT Bass cuts through the mix in a live setting and the way it tracks beautifully in the studio. Why mess with such a good thing? Well, after listening carefully to Tom’s live performance and studio tracks, we thought we could dial in the pickups to suit Tom’s style even more. Ideas were exchanged and prototypes were built, carefully moving the output and resonant peak until the perfect spec was nailed. Aiden Mullen, Tom’s tech, had this to say:
“The new bass you built for Tom is fantastic, and he started tracking with it like twenty minutes after it arrived. Every G&L we get is excellent, and the new pickups are perfect.”
The ASAT Bass Tom Hamilton Signature Model features the new “Hamiltone” Magnetic Field Design humbucking pickups mounted in a Western Sugar Pine body for reduced weight and an aged-satin-finished quartersawn maple neck that better withstands the rigors of worldwide touring. Naturally, the model features G&L’s stunning metal flake finishes, available in Blue, Red or Turquoise Metal Flake with a fresh twist: Silver Metal Flake faux double-binding for even more visual pop on stage. Tom’s signature and special caricature are placed discreetly on the rear of the headstock.

JB
Players fond of the old adage “if it ain’t broke…” haven’t played a JB. You see, the G&L JB™ is all about refinement, blending “holy grail” Alnico single-coil tone with modern improvements and superb craftsmanship.
The JB’s classic Alnico V pickups have tone reminiscent of the best examples from the early ‘60s, thanks to the work of Paul Gagon, G&L VP Engineering. Gagon found his inspiration reviewing original prints stored in Leo Fender’s† private laboratory at G&L, but that was just the start. About 30 years ago, Gagon was an R&D engineer at another company when he was tasked with finding out what was so special about the early bolt-on basses many players raved about. Gagon tirelessly analyzed many examples of what were considered “holy grail” basses, spending time out on the shop floor talking to builders still working in the pickup department since the ‘50s, all on a quest to discover where the real mojo was – and wasn’t. What he learned from the builders matched his own engineering analysis. You see, back in the day, the actual spec of pickups coming that down that old production line varied considerably. That meant coming up with the right specs was more challenging than simply following the prints, and Gagon’s persistence paid off as the JB serves up delicious, classic tone.
This JB projects a time-honored yet subtly progressive vibe, embracing the past yet unafraid of moving forward. The slim, hard-rock maple neck features an easy-playing satin finish, while its comfortable 9 1/2" radius and Jescar 57110 medium-jumbo nickel-silver frets deliver silky playability. What’s more, the JB features an innovative Leo Fender-designed Saddle-Lock™ bridge to transfer string energy right into the body end-grain for an incredibly resonant instrument. The moment you open the deluxe Tolex hardshell case, you’ll be greeted with an instrument of timeless elegance and a delicious aroma that’ll have your pulse racing.

LB•100
The G&L LB•100 made its debut twenty years ago in response to bassists asking for a subtle evolution of the p-style platform. With a slightly streamlined body shape for improved comfort and balance, the LB•100 also brought the G&L Saddle Lock bridge for richer note definition and sustain. In the late ‘90s tastes were changing and the popularity of the p-style platform waned, and the LB•100 was discontinued.
In those years the G&L LB•100 earned legions of avid fans, among them Garry Beers of INXS. According to Garry:
“I’ve been a diehard Precision Bass fan since I was a kid, and as my career took off with INXS I was fortunate to be able to collect some amazing examples made in the ‘50s and ‘60s. Of course, there’s my number one Fender, a 1958 p-bass which I dearly love. However, the truth is the best p-type basses I’ve played are my G&L LB•100s. The shape, feel, and tone are just superb. I’m excited to see the LB•100 return after all these years.” – Garry Beers of INXS
While the tone remains unchanged, thanks to a faithful recreation of the original LB•100 Alnico V pickup wound in-house at G&L.
Made in Leo Fender’s historic G&L facility on Fender Avenue in Fullerton, California, the LB•100 is now available with a wide range of custom options including body and neck woods, body and neck finishes, neck profiles and pickguard materials.
